Residential Counselor
Job Description:

Positions open for Therapeutic Community residential substance abuse counselor.  Minimum education:  High school or GED & post secondary drug and alcohol counseling (2-year) certificate from a recognized institution of learning.  Must be certified with State-recognized body and have two years experience (preferably in Therapeutic Community model).  Must be computer literate.  Proficient charting professional appearance and mannerism.  Experience with 3rd party insurance, valid Class B Driver’s License and/or Bilingual Spanish all big pluses. 


Program serves adult men and women in both sub acute detoxification & TC residential.  Some children reside with parents on site.  Must be off probation or parole, if applicable.  Must be able to pass a background check. $16/hr fully certified. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments & make referrals.
  • Develop treatment plans.
  • Facilitate educational & therapy groups, individual sessions, and core groups.
  • Provide client supervision at all times.
  • Participate in case conferencing.
  • Proficient charting as required by IVRS, County, State and all other pertinent local agencies
  • Maintain a positive and supportive attitude.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Maintain compassion, empathy, and professionalism toward clients; their family members and/or significant others at all times.
  • Ensure the highest level of service is provided to the people we serve.
  • Have knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations and standards governing all services provided by IVRS.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators and fax machines.
  • Prepare correspondence.
  • Able to communicate effectively.
  • Team Player.

Job Description:
IVRS accepts individuals for counselor internships through local colleges including but not limited to Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut; Intercoast College in Riverside and San Bernardino Valley College in San Bernardino. IVRS skilled staff supervises interns and assists them in achieving their educational goals.  Internships are carried out in compliance with agency policy and stipulations set forth by the respective educational institution.
